Today, May, 2023 at 3:30 PM there were 10-12 young adults with 5 or 6 cars parked out in the street in front of my house at 707 J St., Lathrop, and one of them was parked as to block access to my driveway.

They were there visiting my next door neighbors son at 695 J St., Lathrop.

I went out and asked them to move their car out of my driveway and they came back with a bunch of B.S. and told me it was a public street and they could part anywhere they wanted. They said they weren't bothering anyone and that they were within their rights to park there.

I tried to call the Lathrop Police and was unable to get through.

My question is what are the laws/rules/codes about blocking private driveways when parking on the street?

What about parking vehicles in a driveway but parking across and blocking pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk?

Am I within my rights to ask them to move their vehicle? If they don't, can I report it to the Lathrop PD?

Good morning,

I attempted to call you but there was no answer. If it is your property you are able to call the vehicle in to have towed if it is parked blocking your driveway. The city streets are public property and anyone can park on them but you can not block someone's driveway. If you have any further questions please call in at 209-647-6400. I advise to call in to our dispatch nonemergency if this happens again.
