I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally request the incorporation of open gym hours at the basketball gym located in the Lathrop Community Center during weekday hours.
As a new member of the Lathrop community, having to relocate due to the Eaton Canyon Fire, I have noticed that access to indoor basketball facilities is currently limited. I had to leave a great deal behind in Pasadena due to the fire but the one thing I will surely miss is the diverse, positive, and inclusive community of basketball players that was fostered as a product of Pasadena's robust open gym schedule.
By designating specific weekday hours for open gym play, the City can provide a valuable resource for the community, promoting physical activity, social engagement, and overall well-being. Many local residents would greatly benefit from the opportunity to use the indoor basketball court in an organized yet flexible manner. Open gym sessions would allow individuals of all skill levels to participate in basketball games or practice on their own, fostering a more inclusive and active environment, rain or shine. I can appreciate large amount of outdoor facilities available but as an adult and avid basketball player these concrete facilities are too rough on the body for frequent and long term use.
If needed, I would be happy to discuss this request further and explore potential ways to support its implementation.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and appreciate your efforts to enhance recreational opportunities in Lathrop.

Hi Zan,
Welcome to the City of Lathrop. I am sorry for the unfortunate circumstances that brought you here, but we are glad to have you as a member of our community.
Currently the Parks and Recreation Department operates a single, non-regulation size gymnasium for all our programming, including a large youth basketball program and leisure classes. Our overflow programs utilize the Senior Center after hours.
The good news is that we are currently in the early conceptional design phase for a new community center that will have multiple courts.
I will note that we have provided adult open gym basketball programs in the past, but did have significant issues with appropriate participant behaviors.
Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any additional questions. Additionally, please check out our website at www.ci.lathrop.ca.us/parksrec for a full list of programming and special events.
