I have just had to deal with a huge failure on the part of the City of Lathrop. A large dog viciously attacked my small dog in my front yard at around 7:45 on Monday June 28, 2021. Animal Services can give you the details. My daughter called to get someone out to pickup the attack dog that we had restrained. At first she got nowhere with the idiots handling the phones. The male "person" had to call her back to provide a solution. When he did his only suggestion was to call animal services the next morning after 7 AM.

THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND SHOWS WHAT A JOKE YOU PEOPLE ARE. YOU CAN'T EVEN DEAL WITH A SERIOUS ANIMAL EMERGENCY YET YOU ARE TRYING TO BUILD YOUR OWN POLICE FORCE. Incompetence and total disregard for the safety of your citizens. You are a total failure in every sense of the word. Former Mayor Rhodes brought this issue to your attention way back when she was mayor. You still have not properly addressed it. You obviously don't care. And if you think that you have a solution in place I have a dead dog and there is a dog in my neighborhood that goes into full attack mode when it sees another animal. No provocation. No anything but run up and take a huge bite into my dog. And the answer from the inept person on the phone was to call animal control in the morning.

I want this fixed and I want heads to roll.

We also called 911 several times and whatever we have as officers left to serve and protect us REFUSED to come out. That is probably a serious felony offense that someone needs to be charged with and arrested for. We expect someone to get up and deal with emergencies when we call 911, not brush us off as unimportant and not worthy of their time.

You have a serious problem that needs immediate action. This isn't a loose dog running around at night. This is a very dangerous animal that will go from docile to full on attack in less than a second. You MUST have someone in the 911 loop that can deal with emergencies such as this. It isn't an option to consider. It is mandatory.

In all honesty I should have killed the dog after being told to wait until the morning and call. I'm sure someone would have been out instantly trying to charge me with cruelty to animals. That is the big joke about this situation.

After 48 hours of trying to save my dog I had to make the tough decision to end his suffering and have him put down. You have no idea the joy that he brought to my grandkids, my kids and my wide and I. We have a huge hole in our family now and an emergency services system that could care less.

I will also add that the people we do have in animal control have been very supportive and encouraging. They are not the problem at all. The problem is what happens when they go home for the evening and Lathrop doesn't have any way to deal with a serious animal threat. Next time I will take care of the problem myself and you guys can clean up the mess. That can wait until the next morning since the threat will have been removed.
