 Having a dog is a big commitment. Here are some resources to
help you with this important responsibility.
California Penal Code
Animal Cruelty 597 CPC : Anyone who intentionally and maliciously
abuses, injures, or neglects (including not providing adequate food, water, shelter,
and/or medical care) an animal can be punished as a misdemeanor or felony.
The Importance of Spaying/Neutering
The overpopulation of unwanted animals is a serious problem in Lathrop. Lathrop
Animal Services asks that all pet owners have their pets spayed or neutered. In
addition, the State of California requires that any animal that is adopted from
a Shelter is spayed and neutered before it is adopted.
Select Lathrop Ordinances that All Dog Owners Should Know
Dog License - LMC 6.12.180 : All dogs four months or older must
be licensed and wearing a current license tag.
Leash Law – LMC 6.12.050 : Dogs are not permitted to run
at large. They must be kept confined to an owner's yard or under leash control.
Animal Nuisance/Barking – LMC 6.32.110 : It is against the
law to allow any animal to disturb the peace and comfort of another.
Sanitary Keeping of Animals - LMC 6.32.100 : Animal quarters must
be kept clean and sanitary.
Curbing of Animals - LMC 6.32.170 : When any animal defecates on
any public or private property of any person, the person owning or having custody
of the animal shall immediately clean up/remove the feces.
