Animal Services News

Animal Services means protecting pets and wild animals from the many dangers they may face both in the wild and in their domestic environments. Animal Services also means protecting people and property from the dangers and nuisance of roaming, uncontrolled animals on the streets, helping people and animals live together in harmony.
The Lathrop Animal Services Department, a department within Administrative Services, is responsible for the welfare of all animals in Lathrop and for promoting the health and safety of animals and people in the community.

Lathrop Animal Services handles over 700 animals per year and responds to over 2,000 calls for service per year. Lathrop does not have its own shelter but contracts with the City of Manteca for shelter services; all Lathrop animals are housed at this shelter.

Lathrop Animal Services:
  • Rescues stray, abandoned, abused and unwanted animals and picks up stray deceased animals;
  • Investigates animal cruelty and enforces City and State laws regulating animals;
  • Manages rabies control, including bite quarantines, and dog licensing programs;
  • Educates the community about animals;
  • Adopts spayed and neutered animals to loving homes;
  • Manages a lost and found program
